Baby showers are very popular as the one tradition that

almost all mothers-to-be are happy to have. Since a baby

shower is a social event certain points of etiquette should

be observed. They may vary depending on your country but the

following are the most common.

1. Usually, baby showers are held a month or two before the

birth of the baby. Having the baby shower before the birth

gives the mother time to buy the items that were not given

as gifts during the baby shower.

2. Traditionally, a close friend of the new mom hosts the

baby party. Relatives and co-workers can also host the event

but the mother of the expectant mom rarely does.

3. Baby showers are for any baby, even if it's not the first

born. Every child is a reason to celebrate.

4. It's best to choose gifts that can be useful and

something that a baby may need everyday like diapers,

feeding bottles, bibs and baby blankets.

5. It's good to have games to break the ice. Conversations,

food and drinks are the thing that should be considered. It

's also nice to have a book where the guests can write

messages to the new mom.

6. Usually, twenty people or more are invited but this will

depend on size the venue.

7. Baby showers are usually held during the weekend since

that's the most convenient time for most people. Normally a

baby shower lasts two to three hours.

8. The person hosting should buy the food and party

supplies.

9. Ideally, the baby shower is held at the home of the

person hosting the party.

10. It's a good idea to have the invitations sent at least

three weeks before the party. This will give enough time for

guests to RSVP. Do not forget to include the directions.

11. A theme for the party is not necessary but it adds life

to the party. If you are using a theme be sure your baby

shower invitations reflect it to set the mood.

12. It's proper to welcome guests when they come and thank

them when they leave. The host should always be present

during the party and should be the one attending to the

guests.
